Monte Cristo

White Sauce

  1. Melt butter over low heat in a sauce pan.
  2. Blend in flour, salt and pepper.
  3. Cook stirring until mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in milk.
  5. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
  6. Boil one minute until thick.

Monte Cristo

  1. Place a thin layer of ham and turkey on each piece of French toast.
  2. Add white sauce on top of meat.
  3. Put a slice or two of Swiss cheese over white sauce and top with a slice of tomato and red bell pepper.
  4. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
  5. Broil French toast with meat, cheese and vegetables in a toaster oven or a conventional oven until Swiss cheese melts.
  6. Serve as an open face sandwich and dip in raspberry jelly.
