Monte Cristo
Ingredients
- 4 slices French toast
- 1/2 pound deli turkey
- 1/2 pound deli ham
- 1/4 pound deli Swiss cheese
- red bell pepper
- tomato
- seedless raspberry jelly
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 cup milk
Directions
White Sauce
- Melt butter over low heat in a sauce pan.
- Blend in flour, salt and pepper.
- Cook stirring until mixture is smooth and bubbly.
- Remove from heat and stir in milk.
- Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.
- Boil one minute until thick.
Monte Cristo
- Place a thin layer of ham and turkey on each piece of French toast.
- Add white sauce on top of meat.
- Put a slice or two of Swiss cheese over white sauce and top with a slice of tomato and red bell pepper.
- Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
- Broil French toast with meat, cheese and vegetables in a toaster oven or a conventional oven until Swiss cheese melts.
- Serve as an open face sandwich and dip in raspberry jelly.
